Public Health England Statistics show that our regional area is of high deprivation, negatively impacting on peoples' mental health, employability, our economy and local statutory services, with hospital admissions for self harm & suicidial rates recorded amongst the highest in the United Kingdom.
Local Adult Health & Scrutiny Committee cites increased pressure and clearly identified a need to increase mental health service provision in our communities to help strengthen them.
Since the opening of our Centre in 2007, we've built an impressive in-house team of specialist practitioners and pool of experienced volunteers (some having lived experience) with an excellent track record of working tirelessly with vulnerable people needing help, linked into and driven by Community need, who've helped shape our CIC organisation and vision.
Since inception of our Community Interest Organisation in October of 2016, by seamlessly bringing together Stakeholders, Management & Steering Committee Members (Many of which are Service Users themselves) and through close collaboration with local service providers, we engage and lead by example to deliver replicable models of care that are holistically tailored and person-centred to each indiviual. Rather than replicate services we plug identified gaps in main stream provision to deliver bepoke projects and support directly needed to people in our local community, who are unable to get the help they need and face crisis.
Prevention Concordat for Better Mental Health in 2023 stated prevention was key and further to help requests to access our services by local people, crisis teams, GP's and NHS, yet feedback we have obtained confirms waiting times of up to 18 months to access mental health service provision.

PROJECT: 42 - (POST CODE NEIGHBOURHOOD TRUST FUNDED BY PLAYERS OF THE PEOPLES POST CODE LOTTERY)
CHANGING LIVES PROGRAMME 2024
Value: £24, 965.00
In 2023, we approached the People's Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, to request their financial support to fund our Changing Lives Programme and in Nov 2023 they awarded us with a Grant to run this Project Programme for an entire year!
The programmes focus was on providing immediate access to a Mental Health Service Provision to people in Tees Valley Area suffering addiction, anxiety, depression and at high risk of crisis. This included a full assessment of need, structured support & access to referral pathways and a Weekly " Changing Lives Addictions, Depression & Alleviation of Social Anxiety & Isolation " Drop-In Group to help develop coping strategies and life-skills to manage & maintain their mental health.
We have learnt that being able to provide immediate grassroot help, support and resources to people who would otherwise fall into crisis, results in fewer unnecessary GP emergency and secondary mental health appointments. The outcomes and feedback from participants over the past 12 months, demonstrate this projects comprehensive and replicable model successfully works.
Furthermore increased productive contributions to the community resulting through voluntary work and increased employability, has left a lasting legacy model of care, lead by example for others to replicate. Every beneficiary received immediate help at a crucial juncture to change their lives and stop further decline, helping to reduce strain on their carers, immediate families and statutory services, with good outcomes and positive impacts on our community.
Many beneficiaries stated they were unable to access timely support intervention and help from main-stream services, being simply unaware of the help and support available to them. This project closed on 31st December 2024 with a high demand for crisis intervention, help with alleviating social anxiety and isolation with some still requiring further therapeutic sessions, ongoing help with liaising and advocacy together in-house counselling sessions over the medium term, in order to address and overcome more deep-routed issues.
Our ethos and policy is NEVER to turn anyway away who needs timely urgent access to intervention services and help. Thanks to the grant received from The People's Postcode Neighbourhood Trust (funded by players of The Postcode Lottery) four peoples lives were saved, whilst many others received urgent, immediate help and support, including access to the weekly Drop-In Group.
