How it all began... on 22nd June 2007

Now in it's 19th year, the Saltburn WellBeing Centre was born out of a desire to create affordable well-being services based on the needs of the people who use them. Whilst working as a counsellor in a local hospital, Kathryn Thompson, the Centre Founder noticed that common problems appeared to be social isolation, disjointed working and services which were focused more on ticking boxes, than on the actual needs of the people themselves.

The WellBeing Centre (Saltburn) CIC was incorporated on October 1st 2016, although its roots and work stem back to 2007 as an unincorporated community group called ‘Well-Being For All’ that worked closely with a private limited 'Not For Profit' company operating with charitable intent.

By 2013, volunteers from the Well-Being Centre continued to develop ideas, activities and services that bridged gaps and fulfilled the purpose and needs of people in our wider community, particularly vulnerable adults living in hard to reach, wealth disparate areas, experiencing multifarious barriers to entry into services, who face crisis. As a result of these charitable endeavors the projects and activities yielded excellent positive outcomes and the Centre began to become a beacon of light and hope for local people facing crisis and unable to access timely help and support they needed.

In 2016, it was decided to consolidate and formalise the intimate close partnership between the private limited company and the unincorporated community group. The growth and success in fundraising for increased programs to meet local demand, resulted in the formation of The Wellbeing Centre (Saltburn) CIC, a fully-fledged Community Interest Company limited by guarantee, providing us a more sustainable, formal structure and platform capable of providing a combination of project funded and private services around the themes of looking after ourselves holistically and helping people to develop transferable life skills and tools to better manage and maintain their health and well-being.

The WellBeing Centre prides itself in having something for everyone and has everything from Well-being courses for employees, counselling services, complementary therapies, stress management, to services of a more spiritual nature including development circles, mediumship, yoga, meditation and spiritual healing. We also have a library & gift vouchers for many of our services are also available to purchase.

In the Summer of 2025, our Community Interest Company will appoint two additional directors. Management and steering committee numbers have also been increased further to the delivery of a number of highly successful projects thanks to grant funding from the Woodsmith Foundation & The Postcode Neighbourhood Trust (Funded by the players of The Peoples Postcode Lottery).

2026 will see yet more positive changes, as we begin to roll out an ambitious programme focused around building our sustainability model, including the launch of our new community website & social media handles, our wellbeing mobile application which is currently being finalised and tested, the re-launch of a new EAP service geared towards employees of corporations, and the continued expansion of community-led social inclusion initiatives as part of our transition and growth objectives towards achieving full sustainability and strengthening our communities by making them healthier and happier places to live.
